Tuftex, Sempertex or Kalisan? How to Pick the Right Balloons for Your Next Setup

Tuftex, Sempertex or Kalisan? How to Pick the Right Balloons for Your Next Setup

Quick answer: There's no single best latex balloon brand. Choose Tuftex for outdoor durability and earthy shades, Sempertex for the widest range of finishes and soft pastels, and Kalisan for Mirror (chrome) and trendy Retro and Macaron colors. Most pro decorators keep all three on the shelf and mix them in one install.

Can I mix Tuftex, Sempertex and Kalisan in one garland?

Yes. Mixing brands in one install is normal, and "what's the Tuftex version of this Kalisan shade?" is one of the most-asked questions in balloon decorator groups. Two things to watch: the sizes don't line up exactly, and similar color names can look different once inflated. Compare the real inflated shades in our free Real-Life Latex Colors tool before you order.

Which balloon brand holds up best outdoors in heat?

Tuftex has the strongest reputation outdoors. Decorators reach for it for summer setups because of its thick walls. Sempertex also holds up well in heat when treated with shine spray. Every brand oxidizes in sun and heat, though: the cloudy, velvety haze can appear within the first one to two hours outside, and dark colors heat up and fade faster than light ones.

To stretch outdoor life with any brand:

  • Install as close to event time as possible.
  • Use shade wherever you can, and lighter colors in full sun.
  • Pre-stretch outdoor balloons and slightly under-inflate.
  • Finish with a shine spray such as Kalisan Instant Shine or Hi-Shine, which helps delay oxidation and restore shine.

Which brand is best for double-stuffing?

Sempertex has the biggest double-stuffing following, especially for soft custom shades. Pastels like White Sand, Pastel Dusk Cream and Pearl White are popular outer layers that tone down a brighter color inside. Shop Sempertex whites and creams.

What's the difference between Mirror, Reflex and chrome balloons?

They're each brand's metallic, reflective finish. Kalisan calls it Mirror, Sempertex calls it Reflex, and decorators often call either one "chrome." Kalisan Mirror is our best-selling Kalisan line.

Why does the same Kalisan color look different from bag to bag?

Latex is natural rubber, so shades can shift slightly between production batches, and latex looks different in the bag than at full size. Judge color at full inflation, and buy everything for one install at the same time. If a bag from us looks clearly off, contact us.

Do Sempertex and Tuftex colors match?

Usually not exactly, even when the names are similar. Our Real-Life Latex Colors tool shows each brand's inflated shades side by side so you can match a client's palette before ordering.
